New bars, controls, lights
I ordered a bunch of new parts with Christmas money and have spent a few hours in the shop getting everything on there. Some stuff has been frustrating but mostly everything has been pretty smooth. Tossed on a set of 1977 batmin bars, which are basically black powdercoated m-bars. I love the treats m-bars on my Magnum, so I’m hoping they work nicely for this build. Also got new Domino...

Happy New Year.
Yesterday I got a “Freespirit.” Quotations because it doesn’t have the typical Freespirit characteristics: “Puch” decals on the tank, spoke wheels, no mention of “Sears Roebuck & Co.” on the VIN tag (instead, MFD by Murray Ohio), 14mm Bing & Intake, and no Freespirit Moped graphic on the back of the seat. Also, the VIN number is just 213. Very...

dankastner: One of our rad customers at 77 sent us this vid.  It is shot with a GoPro camera, simple riding vid, but gets you excited to get out there. How have I not seen this before.  RAD RAD RAD.  -DW

Tearing down to build up
Went down to the shop to take the bike for a spin and do some work on it. The roads were clean enough to just ride around and heat it up a little bit. It’s definitely not tuned well, but the midrange kicked in a little bit and there is absurd amounts of power there. I can’t wait to get this thing rolling for real. I had been planning on ironically keeping the turn signals on the bike,...

Fitting the intake and carb, and it runs
OK, so a friend bought me a 21mm PHBG for saving him a ton of money on an auto repair, so I decided to use it over the 19mm PHBG. First thing was to bore out the intake to 21mm or so… this is actually pushing the tolerances of the stock intake, and I think some points are more like 20mm. The top of the intake is pretty thin at this point, I’m not sure how much more I can grind it. I...

First workday in Moped City/BP Outpost
Did a lot of work today down in my new workshop area, a warehouse space down in south Ann Arbor, along with my buddy Ryan who found the space in the first place. Got a lot done in 4 hours. First a quick tour of the space: The bikes are mostly Ryan’s, his collection is growing. His Hobbit is apart for some top secret (for now) customizations and I’m not sure any of the others...
